Certificate in AI Direction and Application (CAIDA)
Program Highlights
Accreditation & Credibility
Benchmark Six Sigma is an Accredited Training Provider of Exemplar Global (formerly RABQSA), a globally recognized certification body and part of the ASQ (American Society for Quality) family.
Exemplar Global accreditation ensures consistent standards, credible assessments, and global acceptance — validating capability without replacing it.

Duration & Format
Live online, built around working professionals — about three to three and a half hours a week during an active domain: one two-hour live session, plus application to your own job between sessions. Each domain module runs four weeks. A mandatory one-hour live online Foundation session at a scheduled time comes first, normally one to two days before your first domain begins.

Differentiators
Unique Value Proposition
AI Direction and Application — a Category of Its Own (Dominant Advantage)
-
You do not need to build AI. You need to direct it. CAIDA occupies the universal professional capability between merely using AI and architecting AI systems — you decide what AI should do, how the work is framed, what context and boundaries it needs, how the route is managed, and what evidence is required before the result is relied upon. You remain accountable for the work. Learn to direct AI the way a film director directs: you don’t act or operate the camera, yet the film is yours. No code, no building.
Organized around how professionals create value — learning, analyzing, deciding, communicating, systematizing, building — not around tools that churn every quarter. And nothing stays theoretical: every module is applied on genuine work you are accountable for, not toy exercises. Employed, consulting, freelance, entrepreneurial or nonprofit work all qualify.
Tool-agnostic by design. Trainers demonstrate in tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot and Gemini while teaching abilities that transfer across them.. You need access to at least one suitable generative-AI tool — a free plan is often enough — and you follow your own organisation’s rules on approved tools and information use.
Accredited by Exemplar Global
-
Your credential — the Certificate in AI Direction and Application — is accredited by Exemplar Global, part of the ASQ family. You earn the designation CAIDA Professional.
Accreditation on top of demonstrated real work: the certificate carries external recognition, and public verification confirms which domains you demonstrated and when. Every certificate includes a QR code that opens the authoritative online record.
The Eight Direction Abilities
-
One complete operating discipline — Delegate (decide what AI should and should not do) · Frame (define the job, intended user and what good means) · Context (provide the smallest sufficient set of authorised evidence and boundaries) · Plan (choose and sequence the route) · Steer (diagnose, redirect, and know when to stop) · Validate (earn the right to rely on the result) · Land (make the result useful at its real point of application) · Capture (make successful direction repeatable by someone else).
They work as an interacting loop, not eight rigid steps. And the standard runs against the grain of how AI is usually taught: more prompts, more tools, more context and more iterations do not represent greater capability — better judgement about how much each piece of work deserves does.
Every submission is assessed against all eight, with structured trainer feedback through the Academy, and every module deepens them through application on new terrain.
Responsible Direction Built In
-
Validate before you rely. It runs through every module and every applied task — never rely on unverified output, never expose confidential data, never hand a consequential decision to AI. And asking the same AI to check its own output is review, not independent validation.
Responsibility is non-compensable. Six red lines govern the work — unauthorised information use, fabrication or material reliance without verification, uncontrolled delegation of consequential authority, materially harmful conduct or output, concealing AI involvement where disclosure is required, and uncontrolled operational deployment. A capstone that crosses any of them cannot pass until the issue is corrected, whatever the scores elsewhere.
One more threshold sits alongside them: you must be able to explain your output’s limitations, its residual risks, and the circumstances in which it should not be used. Strong work everywhere else cannot compensate for its absence.
Reusable Skills That Compound
-
Every module leaves you with named, reusable AI Skills — structured capability packages, not saved prompts. Each one carries its purpose and intended user, the inputs and context it needs, the direction steps themselves, the decision rules and human approval points, its validation checks and safeguards, worked examples, and an owner and version.
A Skill is tool-agnostic by definition: the same package can be implemented as a Claude Skill, a Custom GPT, a Copilot or Gemini setup, project instructions, or a documented AI-enabled procedure. What is assessed is the reusable capability, not the container it happens to live in.
And the test is not that it works for you. For your credential, at least one of your Skills must be successfully cold-run by someone else — run by a colleague, from your instructions, without you standing beside them. That is what turns personal capability into team capability.
Built Around Your Role and Your Week
-
Nine questions about your work, none of them about AI tools. Your personal AI Direction Report maps where your time goes and recommends the two or three domains where directed AI is most likely to give you leverage first — explained in your own words, drawn from your own answers. The recommendation is developmental guidance, not a competence score, and it stays yours to change after discussion.
Then, optionally, a free 60-minute live session — open to everyone, and most useful once your report is in front of you.
Enrolment is open continuously; you can enrol before or after the diagnostic, though it must be complete before your first domain begins. Attend the one-hour live online Foundation at its scheduled time, then start your first domain batch. About three hours a week during an active domain. No technical background required — from operations and finance to consulting, HR and leadership.
Package Inclusions
Live Sessions Under Direct Facilitation
17 hours of live facilitation: a one-hour Foundation session plus four two-hour sessions in each of your two chosen domains — demonstration, critique, and capstone confirmation.
Watch AI directed live on real work like yours, then have your own direction trails critiqued against the Eight Direction Abilities. Across Weeks 1–3 of each domain, every participant receives detailed individual feedback on at least one submission.
Batches capped at 20 participants per domain, so every capstone receives a mandatory live viva — with deeper examination scheduled into overflow slots rather than compressed into the session.
-
Mandatory Live Online Foundation, with a Two-Part Assessment
One live online hour at a scheduled time, normally one to two days before your first domain begins: the Eight Direction Abilities, a trainer demonstration of a complete direction cycle end to end, a short guided exercise on your own work, and the six Responsible Direction red lines with worked examples of how each one fails a capstone. If you can’t attend, a complete recording is available — but it replaces attendance only, never the assessment. Both parts are completed either way
Foundation carries a mandatory two-part assessment: an automatically scored knowledge check, which you pass at 80% with every Responsible Direction question correct, and a short applied Direction Record in which you frame and direct a real task of your own. You receive structured feedback and one reassessment opportunity. Foundation scores support your learning and never appear on your credential.
Foundation must be passed before any capstone is accepted — it is the gate to the credential, not a warm-up.
Your Work as the Project
-
Application tasks are drawn from your own job — your homework is your work, and there is no simulated case study anywhere in the programme. This is the “Application” in CAIDA, built into every week.
Each week you submit a structured Direction Record through the Academy, 48 hours before the next live session, showing how you directed the work — what you delegated, how you framed it, what you validated, what you’d do differently. Those records are what gets critiqued in the following session.
You finish each module with a real deliverable, named reusable AI Skills, and — where the work supports it — a measured before-and-after. Outcomes, not notes.
Personal Diagnostic & AI Direction Report
-
Nine questions about your work, free. Your personal AI Direction Report maps where your hours go, identifies where directed AI is most likely to give some of them back, and recommends two or three domains to start with — each recommendation explained in your own words, drawn from your own answers.
Every figure in it is one you supplied. The report maps them and points to where the leverage sits — it does not add estimates, projections or percentages of its own. The recommendation is developmental guidance, not a competence score, and it remains yours to change after discussion.
AI helps interpret your answers and generate the report. The questions never ask for confidential figures, client names or personal data, and nothing identifiable is used in teaching or marketing without your explicit permission.
Open Clinics, Community & Ongoing Access
-
Monthly open clinic with direct facilitator access — for current participants and alumni, so guidance doesn’t end at certification. It is also the natural venue for cold-running your Skills: your credential requires at least one Skill to be successfully run by someone other than you, from your instructions alone, and the clinic gives you a tester and a setting for it.
Peer batches across industries, an alumni community, and a private capability profile in the Academy holding your evidence, feedback and progress. Public verification shows the domains you have demonstrated and when.
Certificate in AI Direction and Application (CAIDA) Credential
-
Accredited by Exemplar Global, part of the ASQ family.
Certifies you as a CAIDA Professional: demonstrated ability to direct AI on real work, assessed through capstones from your own job in two domains, each confirmed in a live viva. The credential requires the completed diagnostic, a passed Foundation assessment, attendance or approved catch-up for both domains, evidence that at least one capstone was actually used in your workplace, and at least one reusable Skill successfully cold-run by another person — with no unresolved Responsible Direction concern.
One credential, progressively updated. After your first demonstrated domain your private capability profile may show that domain and CAIDA: In Progress. After the second, the certificate is issued. Every further domain is added to the same credential under the same permanent ID, with earlier achievements intact. Demonstrating all six adds the CAIDA Complete – All Six Domains Demonstrated distinction. There are no separate module badges or sub-certificates.
Lifetime validity. Every certificate carries a QR code opening the authoritative online record in Accredible, which shows both what you demonstrated and your current-practice status: Current when all applicable Practice Updates are complete, Update Available during the six-month window after a material update is released, and Practice Update Overdue if that window passes. Your credential remains lifetime valid throughout — the status reports currency of practice, not validity.
Key Benefits
Learning Outcomes
Direct AI Without Building It
-
Learn the complete cycle of AI Direction: decide what AI should and should not do, define the job and what good means, give it the right evidence and boundaries, choose the route, steer and know when to stop, validate before you rely, land the result at its real point of use, and capture the approach so someone else can repeat it.
Eight abilities that make AI produce your standard of work, on whichever suitable AI tool you use, without writing a line of code — and you apply every one of them to your own job as you learn.
Develop the Skill That Elevates Every Career
- AI Direction sits between merely using AI and architecting AI systems — the universal professional capability in the middle. It is a business role rather than a technical job title, and whatever your role, it multiplies expertise you already have rather than replacing it.Whether you work in operations, finance, consulting, quality, HR or leadership, the Certificate in AI Direction and Application (CAIDA) answers “what do you want to be known for?” with assessed work from your own job rather than a course completion.
What Participants Set Out to Achieve
Each domain is built around a business outcome you pursue on your own work. What you achieve depends on the work you choose, your role and your organisation’s conditions — these are the goals the programme trains for, not results it guarantees:
- Reclaim hours from recurring work, measured against your own baseline where you take the Workflow domain rather than against a claimed average
- Make better-examined decisions, with AI as a rigorous thinking partner and the decision staying yours
- Produce communication and analysis that survive scrutiny — claims traced to sources, calculations independently validated
- Redesign recurring work so the improvement sustains itself, with ownership assigned and exceptions handled
Perfect for Non-Technical Professionals
-
No programming background needed, and no prior AI experience assumed. The diagnostic that starts your journey asks nine questions about your work — none of them about AI tools at all.
You work on the job you already do, in a suitable AI tool you have access to, with concepts explained through your own real examples. Whatever your current AI habit is — daily user or complete beginner — it’s a starting point, not a requirement.
Graduate With Real Working Assets
-
Your two domains determine what you leave with. Across the six, these are the deliverables — you produce the two that match your chosen domains, not all seven:
- Evidence-backed research briefs, with material claims traced to source
- Reproducible analyses and decision-ready insight products, independently validated
- Decision records that survive scrutiny — options, criteria, adversarial challenge, ownership
- High-stakes communications with influence plans, delivered and reviewed
- Redesigned recurring workflows, run in practice with a measured before-and-after
- A bounded working tool that at least one other person uses to complete a real task
- Named, reusable AI Skills — with at least one across your two domains cold-run successfully by someone else, from your instructions alone
This is the “Application” in CAIDA made visible: you graduate with deliverables from your own job, not theoretical labs. That requires genuine work you’re accountable for — employed, consulting, freelance, entrepreneurial or nonprofit all qualify; a fictional case study does not.
Lifelong Professional Advantage
- Direct AI confidently on work that doesn’t exist yet — tools churn, the abilities don’t
- Build and share team-level AI Skills that colleagues can run without you
- Lead responsible AI adoption with judgment, not hype — red lines, disclosure, and decisions that stay human
- Add each further domain to the same credential, with CAIDA Complete when all six are demonstrated, and keep your practice current through periodic Practice Updates
- Move into AI-forward leadership — or into CAISA, a peer craft for building AI solutions rather than a step up
Key Focus Areas
Topics Covered
CAIDA isn’t a fixed sequence of sessions — it’s a Foundation everyone takes, plus two domains your diagnostic recommends and you choose. All six are peers: no core, no electives, no prerequisites, and no fixed order. Here’s what that looks like: the Foundation, the six domains, and the rhythm every module follows.
Foundation (mandatory — one live online hour at a scheduled time, normally one to two days before your first domain)
- The complete discipline of directing AI: Delegate, Frame, Context, Plan, Steer, Validate, Land, Capture — eight abilities taught as one interacting loop, not eight rigid steps, with a trainer demonstrating a full direction cycle end to end and a short guided exercise on your own work.
- The six Responsible Direction red lines that govern everything after it, with worked examples of how each one fails a capstone: validate before you rely, protect confidential data, keep consequential decisions human.
- A mandatory two-part assessment — an automatically scored knowledge check (80% to pass, every Responsible Direction question correct) and a short applied Direction Record on a real task of your own. One reassessment opportunity is included, and Foundation scores never appear on your credential.
- Can’t make the live hour? A complete recording is available — it replaces attendance only, not the assessment, which is required either way. Then your two domains — recommended by your AI Direction Report, chosen by you. Take them in either order, or in parallel where schedules allow. All six stay open:
Domain 1 — AI Direction & Application: Research & Knowledge
- Frame research questions and evidence standards, direct deep research with a defensible source strategy, and work through long documents with full traceability.
- Synthesize and reconcile conflicting evidence, get up to speed on unfamiliar domains in days, and capture it all as reusable Skills — from the Evidence-Backed Research Brief to the Get-Up-To-Speed Tutor.
Domain 2 — AI Direction & Application: Analytics
- Move from a real business question to defensible insight: metric definitions, data readiness and provenance, method and assumption choices, and interpretation that separates what the data shows from what you infer.
- Validate and reproduce every material calculation, tell the analytical story visually, and build Skills like the Performance & Variance Analyzer and Insight-to-Action Brief.
Domain 3 — AI Direction & Application: Problem Solving & Decision Making (the Benchmark signature module)
- Frame and decompose real problems, explore cause hypotheses with evidence, generate genuine options, and set decision criteria before scoring — with AI as a rigorous thinking partner, never the decision-maker.
- Red-team your own plan with premortems and adversarial challenge, then produce a decision record that survives scrutiny — with Skills like the Root Cause Explorer and Premortem & Scenario Challenger.
Domain 4 — AI Direction & Application: Communication & Influence
- Define what your audience must understand, trust, decide, or do; build message architecture before drafting; and keep an authentic voice that sounds like you at your best.
- Adapt one message across stakeholders, channels, and live conversations — ethically, with verified facts — using Skills like the Storyline Architect and Stakeholder Message Adapter.
Domain 5 — AI Direction & Application: Workflow & Productivity Systems
- Find the recurring work worth redesigning, map its real current state, and divide the work deliberately between human and AI — eliminate first, orchestrate last.
- Handle exceptions, approvals, and sensitive information; measure the before/after; and build systems like Inbox Triage and the Meeting-to-Actions System that keep the time reclaimed.
Domain 6 — AI Direction & Application: Business Applications
- Scope and build small working tools — trackers, dashboards, approval flows — without becoming a developer, including the judgment of when not to build.
- Design data, rules, and permissions; test exceptions and misuse; deploy, hand over, and own — so your tool survives you stepping away.
Inside every module — the four-weekend rhythm
Four weeks, one two-hour live session each week.
Week 1 — Demonstrate and begin. The domain framed, a live demonstration of directing patterns on real work like yours, then guided application to your own, and your first application task set.
Weeks 2–3 — Critique and stretch. Real participant direction trails dissected against the rubric — where the framing won, where the validation failed — plus harder patterns, reusable-Skill development, and capstone preparation.
Week 4 — Confirm and consolidate. Capstone confirmation and your mandatory live viva, selected learning examples, and next steps.
Between sessions, about an hour a week: apply the method to your own job and submit a structured Direction Record through the Academy, due 48 hours before the next session. Week 4 needs a little more — one to three hours consolidating and preparing the capstone, which is due 72 hours before that session so your trainer can pre-evaluate it offline.
Your capstone is a real deliverable, assessed on all eight abilities against a four-level scale. Every ability must reach at least Demonstrated, your domain’s real-use floor must be met, and no Responsible Direction concern may remain unresolved. Work assessed as Not Yet Demonstrated gets specific feedback and one included resubmission — which is why the standard means something.
Who It’s For & Entry Requirements
Target Audience (Professional Roles, Experience Level)
-
Ideal for every professional whose week contains information to master, data to interpret, decisions to make, messages that must land, work that repeats, or something a small shared tool would fix — consultants, analysts, finance and operations professionals, quality and excellence practitioners, HR, sales, trainers, and managers at every level. Equally open to entrepreneurs, business owners and independent consultants, who apply the method to their own accountable work.
No technical background required: your nine-question diagnostic recommends two or three domains where directed AI is most likely to give you leverage first, so the programme fits your role rather than asking you to fit it. Especially natural for Six Sigma and process-improvement alumni ready to add AI Direction and Application to their craft — Problem Solving & Decision Making is built as the bridge.
Prerequisites (Required/Recommended Knowledge)
-
Basic digital fluency. No coding, no programming, no technical AI background, and no prior AI experience needed — your current ChatGPT habit, whatever it is, is a starting point, not a requirement.
Two things you do need: access to at least one suitable generative-AI tool, where a free plan is often enough; and genuine work you’re accountable for, to apply the method to. Your coursework, submissions, feedback and capability record live in the CAIDA Academy, which runs in the browser with nothing to install and is included in your fee.
On sequencing: you can enrol before or after the diagnostic, but it must be complete before your first domain module begins, and the mandatory live online Foundation, at its scheduled time, comes before that first domain too.
Recommended Prior Courses (if applicable)
None required — Foundation assumes nothing.
Methodology & Engagement
Interactive Components (Practice projects, Case studies, Quizzes)
- Live demonstrations of AI direction on real work, drawn from participant diagnostics with explicit permission and anonymised before use
- Weekly application tasks on your own job, submitted as a structured Direction Record through the Academy 48 hours before the next session
- Every submission gets a trainer check; selected anonymised submissions are examined in depth in the following live critique; and across Weeks 1–3 every participant receives detailed individual feedback on at least one submission
- Critique sessions dissecting real participant direction trails — where the framing won, where the validation failed
- Capstone submitted 72 hours before Week 4 for offline trainer pre-evaluation, followed by your mandatory live viva
- At least one reusable Skill cold-run by another person — a credential requirement, with the open clinic as the natural venue
- Monthly open clinic with direct facilitator Q&A — open to current participants and alumni
Support Services (Forums, Technical Support, Post-training guidance)
- Facilitator support via dedicated forums and the monthly open clinic — which stays open to you as an alumnus after certification
- Guidance in whichever suitable AI tool you work in (ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot, Gemini or another). CAIDA doesn’t mandate a provider or include commercial AI licences; you follow your own organisation’s rules on approved tools and information use
- Cross-industry peer batches, an alumni community, and a private Academy capability profile holding your evidence, feedback and progress — with public verification confirming the domains you’ve demonstrated and when
- Recordings and catch-up – Foundation has a complete standard recording, which covers absence but not the assessment — that is required either way. Domain sessions are not routinely distributed as full recordings, because live critiques contain participants’ own workplace material. If you miss a session, catch-up uses a trainer-recorded recap, selected demonstration material, session resources and a structured make-up application, all recorded in the Academy.
- Attendance expectations – You’re expected to attend all four live sessions. One missed session in Weeks 1–3 can be remedied through approved catch-up; more than one needs trainer review and may mean additional work or a transfer to another batch. The Week 4 viva is mandatory and live — if you miss it, a separate viva is scheduled.
Certification & Career Advancement
Certification Earned
Certificate in AI Direction and Application (CAIDA) — issued after Foundation and two demonstrated domains. Holders carry the designation CAIDA Professional.
The credential requires: the completed diagnostic · a passed Foundation assessment · attendance or approved catch-up for both domains · a Demonstrated capstone and mandatory live viva in each · evidence that at least one capstone was actually used in your workplace · at least one reusable Skill successfully cold-run by another person · no unresolved Responsible Direction, authenticity or verification concern.
Value to Employers (Efficiency, Cost Reduction, Quality Improvement)
Operational Efficiency
-
- Reclaim hours from recurring work — status reporting, review preparation, inbox and meeting follow-through — measured against the team’s own baseline where the Workflow domain is taken
- Shorten turnaround on research, analysis and first drafts
- Improve consistency through shared, reusable AI Skills another team member can run without the author present
- Redesign workflows that hold their gains — exceptions handled, ownership assigned, maintenance defined
The intent is added capacity from the people and tools you already have. What any individual achieves depends on the work they choose and your organisation’s own conditions.
Cost Reduction
-
- Tool-agnostic: participants work in whichever suitable generative-AI tool they can access, and a free plan is often sufficient. CAIDA doesn’t mandate a provider or include commercial AI licences
- Small internal tools built and owned in-house, without a development budget
- Less rework, fewer repeated cycles on documents, analyses and reports
- Every capstone is a real deliverable from the participant’s own job, produced during the programme rather than after it
The return, where it materialises, is visible during the programme rather than at the end of a transformation project.
Quality Improvement
- Analyses that are reproducible and independently validated; research with claims traced to sources
- Decisions documented, adversarially challenged, and owned by accountable humans
- Communication that is accurate, audience-fit, and free of AI-generated fabrication
- Responsible AI use enforced by non-negotiable red lines — confidential data protected, AI involvement disclosed, consequential decisions kept human
These are assessment requirements, not aspirations: a capstone that crosses a red line cannot pass until the issue is corrected, whatever the scores elsewhere. The aim is stronger organisational reliability and lower exposure to the risks untrained AI adoption carries.
Career Goals (Roles you can aim for post-certification)
Roles CAIDA Professionals may aim for — directions the capability opens, not employment outcomes the programme guarantees: AI Adoption Lead, Internal AI Champion / AI Consultant, AI Productivity & Workflow Lead, AI-Augmented Business Analyst, Research & Insights Lead, Decision Support Specialist, Operations Excellence Leader, Process Improvement Manager (AI-Enabled), Communications & Proposals Lead, Digital Transformation Lead, Team AI Capability Owner, AI Direction Coach, AI Application Coach

Suggested Sequence
-
- Start with the free diagnostic — nine questions about your work. Your AI Direction Report maps your week and recommends two or three domains.
- Optionally join the free 60-minute live session — open to everyone, and most useful once your report is in front of you.
- Enrol — before or after the diagnostic, though it must be complete before your first domain begins. Enrolment is open continuously.
- Attend the mandatory one-hour live online Foundation at its scheduled time, then your two chosen domains — in either order, or in parallel where schedules allow → CAIDA Professional.
- Add further domains whenever your role evolves. Each is added to the same credential; all six adds the CAIDA Complete distinction. All six remain open, and purchased module entitlement doesn’t expire — batch dates follow the published rotation.
- Drawn to building AI solutions? CAISA is the companion credential — a peer craft for building, not a step up from directing.
Combine with your Lean Six Sigma path: CAIDA pairs naturally with GB/BB — Problem Solving & Decision Making is built as the bridge — and counts toward the broader Business Excellence journey.
Return on Investment & Practicalities
Return on Investment (Salary increase potential, Recognition)
Acquire the Universal AI Skill Without Pausing Your Career
-
Gain the discipline of AI Direction at about three hours a week during an active domain — one two-hour live session plus roughly an hour of application on your own work. No career break, no technical retraining.
Because every assignment comes from your own job, the time you invest goes into deliverables your work needed anyway rather than into practice exercises.
Accelerate Your Career With a Credential That Shows Its Evidence
-
The Certificate in AI Direction and Application is accredited by Exemplar Global, part of the ASQ family. Public verification confirms which domains you demonstrated and when, through a QR code on the certificate itself.
“CAIDA Professional” is a professional identity rather than a course completion — a LinkedIn headline that answers “what do you want to be known for?” with assessed work from your own job behind it.
Impact That Lands During the Programme, Not After It
- Reclaim hours from recurring work, measured against your own baseline — the Workflow domain’s own requirement
- Turn around research, analysis and communication faster — at a standard that survives scrutiny
- Put a redesigned workflow or working tool into real use in your team
- Strengthen decisions with documented, adversarially challenged reasoning
Because every capstone is real work from your own job, your manager and stakeholders typically see the deliverables while the programme is still running.
Capacity Limits
Limited to 20 participants per domain batch — capped by design. Every capstone is pre-evaluated offline by your trainer before Week 4 and confirmed in a mandatory live viva, with deeper examination scheduled into overflow slots rather than compressed into the session.

Frequently Asked Questions
CAIDA or CAISA: Directing AI vs Building AI Solutions
Then you may want CAISA — the Certified AI Solution Architect. It is a peer credential, a different craft, not a higher rank. Some people take one, some take both, and the order between them is not fixed.
The distinction is not “does it involve AI.” CAIDA includes a domain where you build working tools — Business Applications — so the line isn’t drawn at whether you build. It’s drawn at what the thing you build has to survive.
Four conditions define the boundary. Work stays in CAIDA scope when all four hold:
- it is buildable and maintainable by one participant
- its users are named individuals, not an open population
- it is safe without a governance artefact — no formal sign-off, policy or control framework required before it runs
- manual fallback can be restored by the participant if it stops working
Fail any one of these and the work belongs in CAISA. A tracker three named colleagues use, which you could replace with a spreadsheet tomorrow, is CAIDA. A system your department depends on, which needs a data-protection review and which nobody can restore by hand, is CAISA — the same underlying technology, a different discipline of accountability.
The presence of AI inside the tool at runtime is expressly not the boundary. A tool that calls a model is not automatically architecture, and a tool that doesn’t is not automatically simple. Scale, ownership, governance and fallback are what decide it.
Which suggests where you’ll land. If your instinct on hearing “build” is a system other teams will depend on, with an owner, a review and an escalation path, that’s CAISA. If it’s a working tool that removes a weekly irritation for people you can name, that’s CAIDA — and Business Applications is where it lives.
Neither replaces the other. Every architect still directs AI daily — framing, validating, deciding what to hand over and what to keep. Direction is the universal capability between merely using AI and architecting it, and it doesn’t stop mattering because someone’s title changes. If you’re drawn to both, CAIDA is usually the more natural first step, because it is the discipline you will use on the days you are not architecting anything.
Do the AI Tools Change? What Stays Valid
The tools will change. The abilities won’t. That asymmetry is the reason the program is built the way it is.
Nothing here is tied to a tool. You work in a leading LLM — ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Copilot — but what’s taught and assessed sits above all of them: deciding what to delegate, framing the outcome, supplying the right context, choosing the route, steering, validating before relying, landing the result, capturing what worked. Those eight abilities describe how a person directs work. Nothing in them depends on a menu, a feature, or a model number.
A new model doesn’t change the questions. When a more capable model arrives, you still have to decide what to hand it, define what good means, supply authorised context, and earn the right to rely on the output. More capable tools tend to make direction more consequential, not less — a confident wrong answer produced faster is a bigger problem, not a smaller one.
Your reusable Skills survive the churn too. A Skill is a capability package, not a saved prompt — purpose, inputs, direction steps, decision rules, validation checks. It’s tool-agnostic by definition, so the same package can be re-implemented as a Claude Skill, a Custom GPT, a Copilot setup or a documented procedure without rewriting the thinking behind it.
The credential has lifetime validity, and there’s a live record alongside it. The certificate permanently records what you demonstrated and when. Separately, your online record shows current-practice status: Current, Update Available during the six-month window after a material update is released, or Practice Update Overdue if that window passes. When the standard materially changes, CAIDA releases a Practice Update and you have six months to complete it. Every certificate carries a QR code to that live record.
Your credential stays valid throughout. The status reports currency of practice, not validity — those are two different things, and conflating them is what makes most certifications quietly worthless three years on.
And guidance doesn’t stop at certification. A monthly open clinic stays open to you as an alumnus, and it’s where new tool capabilities get translated into direction practice as they arrive. The abilities are permanent; the vehicles keep improving.
What You Walk Away With: Deliverables, Skills, Credential
Three things, in descending order of how much they’ll matter to you: real deliverables already applied in your work, reusable Skills your colleagues can run, and a credential that records what you demonstrated.
Deliverables from your own job. Not exercises. Every capstone is real work taken to its real point of use, so what you finish with depends on which domains you chose:
- an evidence-backed research brief, with material claims traced to source
- a reproducible analysis and a decision-ready insight product, independently validated
- a decision record that survives scrutiny — options, criteria, adversarial challenge, ownership
- a high-stakes communication, delivered and reviewed by its intended recipient
- a redesigned recurring workflow, run in practice with a measured before-and-after
- a bounded working tool that at least one other person uses to complete a real task
You produce the two that match your domains, not all six. Because they’re real, your manager and stakeholders can see them while the program is still running.
Named, reusable Skills. Not saved prompts — structured capability packages: purpose and intended user, required inputs and context, the direction steps, decision rules and human approval points, validation checks, worked examples, an owner and a version. They’re tool-agnostic by definition, so the same package can live as a Claude Skill, a Custom GPT, a Copilot setup, or a documented procedure. At least one must have been successfully run by someone other than you, from your written instructions, without you standing beside them. That’s the test that turns personal capability into team capability.
The credential. The Certificate in AI Direction and Application, accredited by Exemplar Global, part of the ASQ family. You become a CAIDA Professional. It has lifetime validity, and every certificate carries a QR code to a live record showing which domains you demonstrated and when. One credential, progressively updated — further domains are added under the same permanent ID, and all six adds CAIDA Complete.
And the thing that outlasts all three. The eight Direction Abilities transfer across every role, every domain, and every tool generation. Tools churn quarterly. What you learn here doesn’t expire with the next model release.
What any of this is worth inside your organisation depends on the work you point it at.
Not Yet Demonstrated: What Happens and What Comes Next
You receive specific feedback naming the abilities or evidence that fell short, and one resubmission — included, normally within 14 days. It is a recoverable outcome, and it is a real one.
Not Yet Demonstrated means not yet. It is not a fail in the sense of a door closing. It names a gap: one or more of the eight abilities didn’t reach the standard, the domain’s real-use requirement wasn’t met, the evidence couldn’t be verified, or a Responsible Direction concern is unresolved. The feedback tells you which — not a score, but the specific thing that was missing.
There is a third outcome, and it is the most common near-miss. Pending Clarification means the work may well meet the standard but something needs establishing before that can be judged — usually evidence that wasn’t included or a step in your reasoning that wasn’t visible. It is often resolved in a short exchange rather than a resubmission.
The resubmission is included in your fee. Not an extra charge, not a repeat of the domain. You are strengthening the same piece of work, usually in a defined area, with the gap already named for you.
If you disagree with the judgement, there is a route. Your assessor first explains the rubric decision. If that doesn’t resolve it, a second calibrated assessor independently reviews the submission, the viva record and the rubric. Impartial review is a guarantee, not a favour.
Why the program is built this way. A capstone everyone passes proves nothing. If Not Yet Demonstrated were impossible, Demonstrated would be worth nothing to the person who earns it or the employer reading it. The standard has to be capable of not being met, or it isn’t a standard.
Most people who receive it are close. The trail is usually sound and one ability is thin — validation that checked the wrong thing, a result that never reached its real point of use, a Skill that nobody else could run. Those are fixable, and fixing them is where a good deal of the learning actually happens.
Confidential Work: What You Submit and What Stays Private
Yes, and the program is designed for it. Every capstone is real work from a real job, which means confidentiality was a design constraint from the start rather than an exception to be handled case by case.
You submit the minimum evidence needed for assessment — no more. What’s being assessed is the direction trail: how you framed the work, what context you supplied, what you validated, what you’d do differently. That trail is usually demonstrable without exposing the underlying material.
Confidential data may be redacted, masked, or replaced with a verifiable description. A figure can become “a variance of roughly this magnitude against a monthly baseline.” A client can become “a mid-size manufacturer in the same sector.” What matters for assessment is that the claim can be checked as a claim, not that the assessor can see the raw record.
Some things must never be uploaded at all. Raw sensitive datasets, credentials, and restricted client material. This is not a preference — unauthorised information use is one of the six Responsible Direction red lines, and a capstone that crosses one cannot pass until it is corrected, whatever the scores elsewhere.
Vivas never require confidential information to be shown to the batch. Where sensitive evidence needs examining, it moves to a private conversation with your assessor. The same applies to live critique sessions: records are anonymised, the trainer names the ability under discussion rather than the author, and workplace content is not displayed without your consent.
You keep ownership of your work throughout. Nothing identifiable is used in teaching or marketing without your explicit permission. Where an anonymised example appears in a demonstration, it appears because someone agreed to it.
A practical note on tools. The program doesn’t mandate an AI provider or supply licences — you work in a tool you already have access to, and your organisation’s approved-tool rules always apply. Deciding that a particular piece of work should not go near AI at all is itself an act of direction, and it is assessed as such.
If your work is sensitive enough that you’re unsure what would qualify, that conversation is worth having before you enrol rather than after.
Time Commitment: Hours, Weeks and Weekend Sessions
About three hours a week while a domain is running — one two-hour live session at the weekend, plus roughly an hour applied to work you were going to do anyway.
Per domain. One two-hour live online session per week. Four domains run four weeks and come to 12–14 hours in total. Analytics runs five, opening with a primer week, and comes to 14–16. Business Applications runs six, with two build labs, and comes to 18–20. All six share the same four-week arc of demonstrate, critique, stretch and confirm — only the weeks wrapped around it differ.
For the credential. Foundation plus two domains is roughly 26–36 hours depending which two, typically across two to three months. Taken in parallel, the fastest route is about four to five weeks for two four-week domains, five where Analytics is one of them, six where Business Applications is. Parallel study is permitted after Foundation, and you accept the combined workload of the two.
Foundation is one hour. A live online session at a scheduled time, normally one to two days before your first domain, plus about 25–45 minutes for its two-part assessment. Miss the session and a complete recording is available — but the recording replaces attendance only, never the assessment.
The between-session hour is the part worth understanding. It is not coursework. Every application task is a real deliverable from your own job, submitted as a structured Direction Record 48 hours before the next session. You are directing AI on work that was already on your desk — a brief you owed someone, an analysis that was due, a message you had to send. The hour is spent doing that work differently, not doing extra work. Your homework is your work.
The final week of each domain asks for a little more — one to three hours consolidating and preparing your capstone, which is due 72 hours before that session so your trainer can pre-evaluate it offline.
What it does not require. No career break. No technical retraining. No separate study material to find time for. Sessions run at the weekend precisely so that the working week absorbs the application rather than competing with it.
Choosing Domains: How Many and Which Ones
Two domains earn the credential. How many you actually take is a judgment about your role, not a target the program sets.
There are six, and they are peers. Research & Knowledge · Analytics · Problem Solving & Decision Making · Influence & High-Stakes Communication · Workflow & Productivity Systems · Business Applications. No core, no electives, no prerequisites, no fixed order. Take any two, in either order, or two in parallel.
Your free nine-question diagnostic recommends where to start. It asks about your work — not about AI — and your personal AI Direction Report identifies the two or three domains where directed AI is most likely to give you leverage first, explained in your own words and drawn from your own answers. Each recommendation is tiered: Best fit now, Best fit soon, or Possible fit. It is developmental guidance, not a competence measure, and the choice stays yours.
Why two, and not one. The eight Direction Abilities are the same in every domain. What differs is how the work goes wrong. Research fails as a plausible synthesis nobody traced. Analytics fails as a method that cannot support the claim made of it. Communication fails as fluency mistaken for argument. Workflow fails as waste automated rather than removed. Learning to validate a research brief does not teach you to notice when your own decision criteria were written after the choice. The ability is the same; the way of being wrong is not — which is why one domain demonstrates a competence and two demonstrate a discipline.
Why more than two, for some people. A consultant researches, analyses, and then has to persuade someone. An operations lead whose recurring work also needs a small shared tool spans two domains before starting. Each further domain is added to the same credential, under the same permanent ID, with earlier achievements intact. Some take two and add more as their role evolves; others commit to all six at enrolment as CAIDA Complete. Both are ordinary routes — more domains means wider, not higher.
They are not all the same length. Four run four weeks. Analytics runs five, opening with a primer week. Business Applications runs six, with two build labs. All six share the same four-week arc.
Capstone Assessment: How CAIDA Is Judged
Attendance earns nothing. The credential is granted only on demonstrated work, and a capstone can come back Not Yet Demonstrated — which is exactly why passing means something.
What gets assessed is your own work. Every domain ends in a capstone that is a real deliverable from your job: a live research question, a real dataset, a decision you own, a communication you must deliver, a workflow you actually run, or a tool your team needs. Nothing is simulated. And what’s examined isn’t only the artifact — it’s the direction trail behind it: what you delegated, how you framed it, what context you supplied, what you validated before relying on it. A polished artifact by itself proves nothing.
Every capstone is scored on the same eight abilities. Delegate, Frame, Context, Plan, Steer, Validate, Land, Capture — each rated independently on a four-level scale: 0 Not evidenced, 1 Developing, 2 Demonstrated, 3 Strong. All eight must reach at least Demonstrated. A weak ability is never averaged away against strong ones; a 0 or 1 anywhere triggers clarification, guidance or resubmission.
Three further conditions have to hold, and none of them can be satisfied by good writing: the domain’s real-use requirement is met, the evidence is authentic and verifiable, and no Responsible Direction red line is left unresolved. A capstone that crosses a red line cannot pass until the issue is corrected, whatever the scores elsewhere.
A human decides, always. Your capstone is pre-evaluated offline by your trainer, then confirmed in a mandatory live viva. AI may help summarise; it cannot pass or fail anything. Trainers complete CAIDA onboarding, work from common rubrics, and calibrate against shared anchor exemplars so the standard holds across batches. Every viva asks a question that is hard to prepare for: when should this result not be used?
And the credential needs more than two passed capstones. At least one must be in actual workplace use, and at least one reusable Skill must have been successfully run by someone other than you, from your written instructions, without you standing beside them. That last test is the sharpest one — it is where capability stops being personal and becomes transferable.
Do I need a technical background, or prior experience with AI?
No to both. AI direction is a business capability, not a technical one — it belongs to anyone who understands their own work deeply and has real work to point AI at.
The diagnostic that starts your journey asks nine questions about your work. Not one of them mentions AI. That is deliberate: what makes someone good at directing AI is judgment about their own domain, not familiarity with any tool. Foundation assumes no prior experience, and concepts are explained through your own work examples rather than jargon.
Whatever your current AI habit is — daily user or complete beginner — it is a starting point, not a requirement. An existing ChatGPT habit is not a shortcoming, and it is not a head start either. Extraction can be trained into direction.
What you do need is three things:
Basic digital fluency. No coding, no programming, no technical AI background.
Access to one suitable generative-AI tool. ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot, Gemini or another — a free plan is often enough. The program doesn’t mandate a provider or include commercial AI licences, and your organisation’s approved-tool rules always apply. Your coursework and submissions live in the CAIDA Academy, which runs in the browser with nothing to install.
Genuine work you are accountable for. Every assignment and capstone is a real deliverable from your own job. Employed, consulting, freelance, entrepreneurial and nonprofit work all qualify. A fictional case study does not — at least one capstone must show real workplace use, which is the one requirement that cannot be met by someone with nothing real to point the method at.
That last condition is the only genuine barrier, and it has nothing to do with technical skill.
AI Direction: What It Is and What It Isn’t
Using AI well is about getting a good answer. Directing AI is about being able to stand behind one.
Most professionals who use AI are doing extraction: ask, read, take what looks useful. It works, and it’s a genuine starting point. What it doesn’t produce is work you’d sign your name to in front of someone who will act on it — because nothing in that loop establishes what “good” meant before you started, what the AI was and wasn’t given, or what was checked before you relied on the result.
Direction is the discipline that fills those gaps. It runs through eight abilities: Delegate (decide what AI should and should not do, while ownership stays with you), Frame (define the job, the intended user, and what good means), Context (supply the smallest sufficient set of authorised evidence and boundaries), Plan (choose and sequence the route), Steer (diagnose, redirect, know when to stop), Validate (earn the right to rely on the result), Land (make it useful at its real point of application), and Capture (make it repeatable by someone else).
Three consequences worth being clear about:
Better prompts are a by-product, not the point. Prompting is one small mechanic inside the loop. CAIDA rewards directing well, not directing more — one tool and three well-framed instructions can outscore an elaborate workflow.
It isn’t technical. No code, no building. What it demands is judgment about your own work, which is why domain expertise becomes more valuable when paired with directed AI, not less.
Accountability never transfers to the tool. Every output you use carries your name. Deciding not to use AI for part of the work is itself an act of direction.
The nearest analogy is a film director, who neither acts nor operates the camera — yet the film is unmistakably theirs.
I am only interested in in-person training. Do you offer only online sessions?
There are risks of distraction in online training, but for a focused person, there are several advantages as well.
- Most people find it challenging to concentrate for 8 hours a day, so online training is conducted in smaller sessions.
- Asking questions on chat is easy without disrupting the training.
- Trainer and screen visibility is always great in online training.
- Participants can share screens and solve their doubts.
- If you miss a session, you can review a recording.
- You save travel time. You are also safeguarded from other risks related to traffic and health.
- Batches are frequent, and you will easily find one that suits your schedule.
- Offline training will cost more than double online training, even if we do it later.
- Times have changed fast, and we have perfected the online delivery. We have hundreds of satisfied participants who feel that our online sessions were equally or more engaging than offline sessions. Many of them were amazed to experience such an engaging and interactive online session.

Once enrolled in a batch, can I switch to a different batch if I face an unforeseen situation?
Yes, a batch change may be considered in the event of a genuine and unforeseen situation.
That said, batches are carefully planned to ensure learning continuity, group interaction, and effective facilitation. Therefore, batch transfers are not routine and are supported only in exceptional circumstances. If such a situation arises, participants are encouraged to inform the team at the earliest so that the request can be reviewed and guidance provided.
What is the value of the Exemplar Global certificate compared to other institutes?
Exemplar Global was formerly known as RABQSA. RABQSA was established in 1991 and has over three decades of history in setting and governing professional certification standards.
This long-standing legacy, combined with its evolution into Exemplar Global, reflects the organisation’s sustained focus on credibility, rigor, and global recognition in professional certification.
How can I learn more about Exemplar Global? How do I confirm that it is part of the ASQ family?
